We love our pets like members of the family, but we often don't feed them like it. For decades, the most common pet foods were loaded with fillers, byproducts and second-rate materials. But recently, pet owners have begun to demand more from their pet food. As a result, suppliers have struggled to find a reliable source of quality protein (usually poultry, beef or pork) that doesn't also come with a prohibitively high cost. To solve this problem, high-protein pet food manufacturers need to think bigger and look smaller—specifically, to the size of the humble shrimp.
